High-Throughput Combination Memory  

Sharp Corporation has developed a high-speed combination flash/SCRAM memory device featuring a throughput of 320 MBps (bytes/second), more than three times the transfer rate of its predecessor model. The LRS1887 High-Speed Memory is optimal for advanced third-generation mobile phones as well as other applications requiring high-speed transfer of large volumes of data. Sharp is currently shipping samples of the LRS1887, and will start mass production in July 2005.

Vista: New Microsoft Windows  

Microsoft announced Friday that it will call its next-generation operating system “Windows Vista.” The much-anticipated operating system had formerly been code-named “Longhorn”. Microsoft also unveiled the Windows Vista Web site and said the first beta test version of the system, which will be targeted at developers and IT professionals, will be available by Aug. 3. The system is scheduled to be released late next year.

Open-Source Platform To Speed Wireless Development  

In a bid to speed development of new wireless protocols and networking standards, the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2) at UCSD has begun distributing for alpha testing a hardware-and-software platform for wireless research and development. Called CalRadio 1.0, the open-source device gives academic and corporate researchers unprecedented freedom to develop new radio frequency (RF) solutions.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince  

The much anticipated 6th book of J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released on July 16, 2005. The release was synchronized all across the globe, including India. I got my copy on the very first day!

We have a quite a few people really into Harry Potter in our development team. In the past coupla days, our discussions have been infiltrated by Hogwarts, Dumbledore, the Quiditch game and even the books taught during the seven years at Hogwarts. Those who are in the discussion but not into Harry Potter are now asking for the initial 5 books so that they can come in for the discussions.
