Single-chip Image Signal Processor

C&D Technologies has announced the availability of a new application specific imaging signal processor. Designed for use in electronic-imaging applications that employ charge coupled devices (CCDs) as their photodetector, the ADCDS-1410 delivers 14-bit resolution and an impressive throughput rate of 10 Megapixels/sec (MPPS) in a functionally complete single package.

The ADCDS-1410 utilizes the latest multi-process technologies to combine a variety of mixed-signal ICs and passive components in a compact, low-power (800mW typical), single-chip solution with an excellent signal-to-noise ratio of 73 dB min.

The 40-pin TDIP package incorporates a user-configurable input amplifier, a correlated double sampler (CDS), and a sampling A/D converter. Other features include adjustable gain and offset, a precision +2.4V output reference circuit, an out-of-range detector, and a programmable analog bandwidth function.

Typical applications for the ADCDS-1410 include scientific imaging (such as spectroscopy), electronic cameras, medical diagnostic imaging, infrared imaging, high-quality graphic scanning, and photo-CD image capture.

The key to the edge-triggered ADCDS-1410’s performance is it’s unique highspeed, high-accuracy CDS circuit. The circuit eliminates the effects of residual charge, charge injection, and kT/C noise on the CCDs output floating capacitor, producing a ‘valid video’ output signal. The ADCDS-1410 then digitizes this signal using a high-speed, low-noise sampling A/D converter.
