Recovering typed texts  

A new security threat revealed by computer scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, may be enough to drive some people away from their computer keyboards and back to pen and paper. The researchers show that a simple audio recording of those keyboard clicks can betray the text you just entered, from passwords to secret love notes. The researchers were able to take several 10-minute sound recordings of users typing at a keyboard, feed the audio into a computer, and use an algorithm to recover up to 96 percent of the characters entered.

Porsche hybrid SUV  

It was announced at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show that Porsche will indeed be producing a hybrid version of its Cayenne SUV, which has been rumoured for several months now.

Porsche will produce approximately 25,000 Cayenne SUVs during the first full year of production, 70 percent of which will be for export worldwide, including the United States and Canada.

Limited Sales of Service Robot ‘enon’  

Fujitsu has begun limited sales of their new service robot, enon, on a limited basis in Japan from September 13, 2005. enon is an advanced practical-use service robot that can assist in such tasks as providing guidance, escorting guests, transporting objects, and security patrolling. enon will be presented at the 23rd Annual Conference of the Robotics Society of Japan 2005, scheduled to be held at Keio University in Tokyo from September 15. enon will also be exhibited at the 2005 International Robot Exhibition to be held at Tokyo Big Sight from November 30.

NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd. has announced that on August 8 it will begin shipping samples of its new 12.1-inch (31-centimeters-diagonal) super video graphics array (SVGA), amorphous silicon, thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT LCD) module, part number NL8060BC31-32. This module features NEC LCD Technologies’ proprietary super-transmissive natural light TFT (ST-NLT) technology, which enables display of vivid colors in environments with high ambient light.
