Avionics systems integration of the cockpit upgrade on Dubai Air Wing’s Lockheed Martin L100-30 aircraft, the civilian version of the Hercules C-130 military transport has been completed by CMC Electronics Inc., Montreal.
The firm teamed with Gulf Aircraft Maintenance Company (GAMCO), the prime contractor for the project.
CMC supplied its CMA-900 Flight Management System (FMS) as the core of the upgrade, while GAMCO was responsible for all Program Depot Maintenance (PDM) inspection requirements, a new cargo handling system, aircraft painting and the installation of the cockpit upgrade systems.
The multi-sensor system is based on a fully integrated dual CMA-900 FMS, providing effectively 100% dispatch reliability anywhere in the world, and seamless navigation from take-off to final approach.
According to CMC, this will allow the aircraft to meet all P-RNAV (precision area navigation), flight data recording and TAWS (Terrain Avoidance Warning System) requirements.

The FMS includes a color, liquid-crystal multi-function display and includes CMC’s GPS sensor.
“We are looking forward to realizing the many economic, operational and, in particular, safety related benefits provided by the upgrade of our L100-30 aircraft,” Dubai Air Wing Commander Col. Rashid Balhaul says. ”
CMC says it has developed world leading expertise in upgrading the cockpits of commercial air transport aircraft such as the B747, DC-10 and MD-80 fleets with GPS, FMS and display systems and sensors.
Its experience in cockpit avionics systems integration extends to military, fixed and rotary wing aircraft such as P-3 patrol aircraft, C-130 air transport, UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, and the T-6B demonstrator and M-311 trainer aircraft.
CMC is prime contractor, systems integrator and avionics management systems supplier for the CP-140 Aurora (Canadian version of the P-3 Orion) Navigation and Flight Instruments Modernization Project for the Canadian Department of National Defence.
The firm is a private company controlled by an investor group led by ONCAP LP, a $400-million investment fund established by Onex Corp., Toronto, and a number of leading Canadian financial institutions.
