Anne Hathaway (1556 – August 6, 1623) was the wife of William Shakespeare, who is believed to have grown up in Shottery, a small village just to the west of Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England. It has often been inferred that Shakespeare came to dislike his wife. For most of their married life, he lived in London, writing and performing his plays, while Hathaway stayed in Stratford. Furthermore, in his will, Shakespeare famously left Anne only the “second-best bed.”
But there is another Anne Hathaway (born November 12, 1982) who is an actress and more people know this one nowadays! In 2006, she will star in The Devil Wears Prada, opposite Meryl Streep, and Becoming Jane, where she’ll play a young Jane Austen. Here are some photos from her, if you prefer this one to Shakespeare’s wife!
