Dual Display Driver ICs

Supertex, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUPX), a recognized leader in high voltage analog and mixed signal integrated circuits (ICs), today introduced HV843 and HV845, two high brightness, low noise, electroluminescent (EL) lamp drivers, designed to light up dual display cellular phones, portable instrumentation and other handheld devices.

The ICs feature independent input control for lamp selection and 180V peak-to-peak output voltage for high brightness. They are designed to drive two EL lamps with a combined area of 3.5 square inches from input supply voltages ranging from 2.0V to 5.8V. Both devices use a single inductor and a minimal number of passive components and each can drive two lamps independently of each other. HV845 also has two independent common output pins that further minimize the DC offset in a two segment EL lamp.

“With the introduction of these ICs, Supertex continues to improve and expand our EL driver IC family,” states Ahmed Masood, Vice President of Marketing for Supertex. “Both parts dramatically reduce audible noise and the two independent common outputs in the HV845 reduce DC offset, significantly extending EL lamp life.”

HV843 is available in a MLP/DFN-10 package (HV835K7-G) and HV845 is available in a MLP/QFN-12 package (HV845K7-G). The parts are Green and RoHS compliant. Samples are available from stock. Lead-time for production quantities is 4-6 weeks ARO. Pricing is US$1.08 each for the HV843K7-G and US$1.12 each for the HV845K7-G, both in 1K quantities.

Supertex, Inc. is a publicly held mixed signal semiconductor manufacturer, focused in high voltage interface products for use in the telecommunications, networking systems, flat panel displays, medical and industrial electronics industries.
