ACME Portable Computer

ACME Portable Machines, Inc. has announced its latest, thinnest and lightest lunchbox portable computer, the SPS-152. The SPS-152 is a powerful computer with an Intel T2500 2GHz Core Duo processor backed by 2GB of memory (expandable to 4GB) with internal space for one mini and two full-size PCI application-specific boards.

The machine is ideal for field applications and factory floor environments where the power and flexibility of a desktop is required but a portable is more convenient. Ruggedness is assured by its flame-resistant ABS case and aluminum alloy chassis.

A 120GB hard drive is included and space is provided for an additional pair of hot-swappable RAID drives that size. The base system also includes a DVD-RW drive and a floppy; four USB 2.0 ports, two for RS232, and Ethernet connections up to 1000 Base Tx for communications; a full-size keyboard; and a 15-inch tempered anti-glare screen. The total package size is 16 1/2 x 11 1/4 x 6 1/2 inches (415 x 289 x 162mm); weight is 17.6 lb (8kg).

Powered only by wall power, the SPS-152 with 2GB of DDR2 SDRAM and a single 120GB disk is priced at $2,975, $1,000 less than a similar computer with batteries. Deliveries are less than 30 days after receipt of order.
