Underwater Digital Camera Mask

Underwater Camera MaskAs a diver, you may get disappointed by “underwater” commercial electronics (cameras, mp3 players, etc.). It’s rare that you find something designed to be used more than 10-15 feet underwater, and a lot of times, the really cool looking stuff is deeper than that.

Besides, you don’t want to have to worry about your gear getting ruined if you accidentally go a little too deep (there are enough other things to worry about when that happens).

This underwater digital camera mask from Liquid Image is waterproof to a depth of 30m (about 100 feet), which is about as deep as you’re probably going to go in the course of a normal dive. It’s also very well designed, in my opinion: it runs on AA batteries, features USB connectivity, expandable microSD memory, and a 5mp sensor (also good for 25fps VGA video with sound). Crosshairs on the mask show you what’s in frame. There’s even a little LCD status display inside the mask. The only downside might be the small sensor (it’s kinda dark underwater) and the fixed focus range of 5 feet. Looks like it’s great for snapshots, though. Rumor has it that one version of the mask (the less-cool version, I’m guessing) will retail for about $100, but we’ll probably find out more in the next week or two.
